Robocademy at CAMS'16
Between the 13th and the 16th of October 2016 the Robocademy Training Network was present on the IFAC Conference on Control Application in Marine Systems 2016 (CAMS) in Trondheim, Norway.
On behalf of Dr. Vahid Hassani, vice chair of the conference and Adjunct Associate Professor at the AMOS Centre for autonomous marine operations and systems of the National Technical University of Trondheim (NTNU) the Robocademy consortium was invited to submit and present a scientific paper during the "European Projects" session on the second conference day.
The IFAC paper titled "Robocademy - A European Academy for Underwater Robotics" was written by Dr. Thomas Vögele, Samy Nascimento, Bilal Wehbe and Tom Runge from DFKI and was accepted in September after some minor changes. The paper presented an overview of the project and included preliminary results of two research lines: Disturbance Rejection and Long Term Autonomy.
The event started with the pre-conference Workshop on Underwater Robotics on Monday the 13th, which was attended by ESR2, Samy Nascimento, and included the following lectures:
· Underwater marine robotics and examples from underwater field trials and towards autonomy (given by Asgeir Sørensen);
· Kinematics and Kinetics of underwater robotic vehicles (given by Thor Inge Fossen);
· Underwater intervention (given by Gianluca Antonelli).
First conference day was Tuesday the 14th and after the first introduction by Prof. Asgeir Sørensen from NTNU, the audience was delighted to follow a plenary talk from Robocademy professor Maarja Kruusmaa from Technical University of Tallinn (TUT). The plenary talk with the title "Bioinspired Underwater Robots: what Biology has to Offer for Control of Marine Systems?" set the level for the following plenary talks and presentations.
Furthermore, the conference was an excellent dissemination opportunity for Robocademy, being an event that gathered renowned researchers of the Marine Robotics and Automation community.
