Matias is a Robocademy ITN Early Stage Researcher at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. His research is aimed at improving the capability of robots to sense and perceive their environment, which includes the areas of cooperative perception and object recognition. He has obtained a Master of Science in Autonomous Systems from Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, Sankt Augustin, Germany, with a Master Thesis in Text Detection for Road Scenes, which was developed at the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS).
Project Description: His project deals with the problem of underwater object recognition by considering views generated by sensors on multiple robots, which includes the necessary cooperation algorithms to observe a target object, as well as object recognition methods that can exploit the information generated by multiple views of an object. The underwater environment also constrains the problem because of poor communication between robots and noise in the sensor measurements.
