Diogo is a Robocademy Early Stage Researcher at NATO STO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation in La Spezia, Italy, and a PhD candidate at Universitat de Girona. His main area of research is underwater vision, namely using visual cameras and sonar based systems. He developed his Master’s Thesis in the Autonomous Systems Laboratory from Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto.
Since January 2013 he worked in the Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems of INESC-TEC in the ICARUS European research project, on using unmanned SAR technologies for detecting, locating and rescuing humans.
Project Description: Development of reliable solutions to combine optical (mono and/or stereo) and acoustic data. The investigated algorithms will focus on applicative scenarios (for instance mine detections, archaeology applications or vision/acoustic based navigation) in which using both information from optical and acoustic sensors can give advantage and push towards greater autonomy to autonomous underwater vehicles.
